On February 2, 2018 Jennifer will be leading a workshop, Navigating Gender and Sexuality Diversity in PreK-12: Frameworks, Values, and Practice at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, WA.

The Meridian School

On February 1st, Jennifer will be presenting ‘Navigating Gender and Sexuality Diversity in Inclusive Schools: Helping ALL Students Thrive’ at The Meridian School in Seattle, WA. The event is free and open to the public, and pizza and childcare is provided for children K-5!

Why do we need to address gender and sexuality in educational settings and at home? Are all genders treated equally? How does gender affect your child’s sense of self, interaction with peers, and learning style? Bring your observations, your questions, and your curiosity to this lively discussion!

NYSAIS

January 17 – 19th 2018, Jennifer will join her colleague Deborah Roffman in presenting Sex, Gender and Sexuality: Educating Students, Supporting Families, and Creating Safer School Communities.

This three-day, didactic, experiential and interactive program will afford hands-on opportunities for attendees to apply core concepts to real-life school scenarios as well as classroom-based teaching. Jennifer and Deborah will provide the language and the conceptual frameworks educators need to understand the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual aspects of gender and sexuality development.

AMERICAN MONTESSORI SOCIETY WINTER RETREAT

The American Montessori Society’s Winter Retreat is an annual gathering of Montessori school administrators in January in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The event offers impactful professional development, a featured speaker who leads participants in the exploration of topics relevant to school leaders, collaboration and networking with Montessori peers, and relaxation in a peaceful and gorgeous environment. Jennifer is thrilled to be the 2018 featured speaker, presenting From the Dress-Up Corner to the Senior Prom: Navigating Gender & Sexuality Diversity in Schools.

HEARD IN RYE

Heard in Rye is a speaker’s bureau which brings in distinguished experts in parenting and education for speaker events in Rye, NY with the aim of building community through supporting parents. On November 17, 2017 Jennifer participated in the panel discussion Understanding Gender Diversity: Raising Open, Accepting, and Diverse Children, along with Genevieve Weber, Ph.D. and Aron Janssen, M.D.

High Mountain Institute

In August, Jennifer spent two days at the High Mountain Institute in Leadville, Colorado. Her work with the faculty and staff was recently featured in the HMI newsletter. Check out Workshopping Inclusivity!

SHAMBHALA NYC

On May 23, join TFC and Shambhala New York City community members in a partial screening of the award-winning documentary film QUEER CITY. A panel of experts, including Team Finch’s Jennifer Bryan, will lead a discussion of the meaning of identity, the fluidity of gender identity, and the Buddhist concepts of relative and absolute identity.

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ADMISSIONS ASSOCIATION OF GREATER NEW YORK

On May 17, over 90 admissions staff from greater New York schools will join Jennifer in strategizing how to incorporate the Gender and Sexuality Diversity (GSD) framework into inclusive admissions practices.

THE MEDIATION AND TRAINING COLLABORATIVE

On May 10, Jennifer will lead members of TMTC in taking an updated look at Gender and Sexuality Diversity (GSD) and how our gender identities may affect mediation and training dynamics. Join us in Northampton, MA.

RACE INSTITUTE

Join Jennifer in participating in the Race Institute for K-12 Educators at Germantown Academy outside of Philadelphia on May 4-6. At Team Finch Consultants, we too believe “it is the job of all educators to support the positive racial identity development of students”. NYSAIS WORKSHOP

Jennifer travels to Poughkeepsie Day School on April 17, 2017 to present “Gender and Sexuality Diversity: Frameworks, Values, Practice” to preK-12 Educators. The workshop will focus on the concepts and language with which to create developmentally appropriate practice. Using school mission and the Gender and Sexuality Diversity framework, participants will engage with critical questions about human identity development, ideal conditions for learning, teaching methods and curriculum design, and policies and programs. INCLUSIVE TEACHING AT PRINCETON

Join Jennifer on March 29, 2017 for an interactive discussion of Identity and Authority in an Inclusive Classroom. When does identity enhance or undermine the presumed expertise or authority of the teacher? How do dynamics of identity influence the classroom experience for students and teachers alike? Jennifer will join Catherine Steiner-Adair in presenting a workshop on “Gender Equality Education: Preparing 21st Century Students for Work and Love” at the 2017 National Association of Independent Schools annual conference on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.  Jennifer and Catherine will address new ways of thinking about social-emotional learning (SEL) as we prepare students to form healthy intimate relationships.
